Hello PEI! Devon here, your Sports & Wellness Inclusion Specialist!
There are lots of exciting things coming across PEI this summer so make sure you keep an eye out on our socials for updates. I plan on planning and hosting as many outdoor Sport & Recreation events as possible during the summer months.
We’ll be doing things like playing soccer on the pitch, ultimate frisbee in the park, outdoor tennis, and more outdoor fun. There will also going to be a great many hikes along the Confederation trail throughout PEI. Keep your eye out for these ones in particular because they just may be the best one for your mental health and wellness. Embrace yourself with nature, find your true happiness, maybe spot a bunny rabbit along the way. Just come out and have a blast!
Make sure you look out for my signature event in the late summer, THE RAT RACE! This is one that you recruit your friends for, it’s going to be legendary!
PEERS Alliance will also be hosting in partnership with Softball PEI an official PRIDE event during the island’s celebration. Come join us on Monday July 28th @ 6 PM at Queen Elizabeth number 2 field for a historically queer game of Softball!
Make sure you look at all our socials and our website to keep updated on Sport and Recreation activities to come. Your wellness is my wellness!
Lots of love, Devon
Queer Elders Forum – A Fabulous Beginning!
This month, over 50 queer folks aged 50 and up came together for PEERS Alliance’s first Queer Elders Forum—and what an afternoon it was! Held at the ever-gracious Rodd Charlottetown (who absolutely outdid themselves with the buffet), we gathered to reflect, connect, and imagine what’s possible as we age in community.
Discussions ranged from what we might call ourselves (the verdict’s still out!) to what kinds of events people want to attend—or host themselves. Think: coffee socials, skill-sharing, theatre outings, and real talk about aging with pride and purpose.
This is just the beginning. Keep an eye out for our online survey and the first of many events created for—and by—our Queer Elders (50+). The future is aging, queer, and full of possibility!
